Russian metallers Hell:On are certainly offering due contributions towards a needed rebirth of the extreme metal subgenres.
This 12-tracker is a slab of straight ahead death metal in the missed old school vein of being able to hear what the vocalist is saying. Helpful it be as well that they happen to do it in English, theirs being very well taught indeed, and that’s not to leave out the rest of the instruments. Shredding, slamming Bay-Area bred ferocity is the dominating strand taking you throughout the album and every cut delivers something to like about it.
'Fake', 'Snatch The Mask', 'Tame The Beast', 'To Become Alive', 'Wake up' and 'Warrior’s Way' don’t all appear divided by a significant line of style variation but some brilliantly hard beating rhythm guitar visits and solos from Anton and Alexy give Annihilator’s Jeff Waters a sizeable whack for his money. Potential slots on European festivals this year are likely on the back of this beauty getting airplay, and the live extras on the end show them already fast on the way.

Thrash Metal/Crossover metal with touches of Hardcore and old school sounds.  Hell:On is a Brutal foray into the Thrash Metal genre with added spice.  From the start Hell:On gives out a feeling of technical and progressive metal with fury and anger that brings the shit to the table!  The Metal just flows throughout the EP.  I haven't had the pleasure of hearing this band before, but better late then never.  "In the Shadow of Emptiness" gives shear power and precision, I love it and so will the rest of the underground!  This EP can be downloaded for free from their Myspace Page as well.  There are 4 tracks totaling 16 to 17 minutes of pure anger.  Not much more needs to be said considering this can be found by anyone who goes to their page. I will leave you with this - Kick ass metal right here!

Hell:On  are  a  band  from  Ukraine  that  plays  a  melodic  style  of  death/thrash  metal  mixed  with  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "Re:Born"  which  was  released  by  Metal  Scrape  Records.
Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  tone  with  riffs  that  dominate  throughout  the  recording.
Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  thrash/hardcore  and  death  metal  together  with  some  melodic  riffing  being  thrown  into  the  music  at  times  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  and  technical  sounding  guitar  solos  and  leads.
Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death/thrash  growls,  hardcore  style  shouts  and  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful  and  heavy  sound  to  it  and  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  in  addition  the  last  3  songs  are  recorded  live.
In  my  opinion  Hell:On  are  a  very  good  sounding  thrash/hardcore/death  metal  hybrid  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this style,  you  should  check out  this  band. RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Fake"  "Tame  The  Beast"  "Warrior's Way"  and  "The  Haunted  House".  RECOMMENDED  BUY

Не спешите удивляться, увидев дату этого релиза, это не что иное, как переиздание второго альбома украинской группы, дополненное бонусами. Из бонусов имеется кавер на композицию “Revolution”, группы MORIA, три концертных трека и видео на композицию “Wake up”. Для тех, кто в танке, или если группа еще не успела добраться до ваших мест, скажу, что стиль это thrash metal, но с примесями разных других стилей, типа groove, death и пр. Музыка мелодична и красива, агрессии кое-где не хватает.

Второй студийный альбом украинских металлистов не блещет оригинальностью, однако и профессионально сыгранные клише способны привлечь к себе внимание любителей дикого драйва и опасных скоростей. Thrash двадцать первого века – так можно назвать направление, в котором выдержан материал этой пластинки. Твор-чество группы Kreator явно произвело на участников украинского коллектива неиз-гладимое впечатление, ибо аллюзии на немцев будут встречаться постоянно. Звук плотный, но не резкий. Раскачает, но в голову сильно не ударит. Вокал грубый, напористый, хриплый – ровно такой, какой необходим подобной музыке. Периоди-чески встречаются грувовые элементы, бла-годаря которым музыка Hell:On всё-таки приобретает некую оригинальность. Вла-дение инструментами высокое, так что и риффы, и соло и барабанные ходы, и басовые линии – все эти элементы отвечают требованиям неписанного thrash metal ГОСТа. Явного лидера на пластинке нет, ровно как и нет стопроцентного аутсайдера - запорожский квинтет отобрал для этого релиза восемь абсолютно равноценных песен. “Re:Born” – грамотная и сбалансированная работа. Она не удивит, не осядет на долгие годы в проигрывателе, но на некоторое время её хватит точно.

Неоднозначный альбом. С одной стороны, он представляет собой идеальную мишень для придирок по всем фронтам: звук, мелодии, вокал, гитары, ну всё, т.е. абсолютно всё, как минимум, не идеально, как максимум - дисгармонично. На поверку же выясняется, что каждый риф и каждая партия оказываются единственно возможными, а микс выполнен весьма грамотно, во всяком случае, лишнее подчёркивание или выделение какого либо из инструментов неимоверно привело бы к «забиванию» всех остальных. Некоторых, конечно, может смутить некоторая сухость саунда, но так мы имеем дело не со сборником неизданных демок SODOM. Не так ли? А так вполне достойный альбом, способный примирить  как любителей олдскула (композиция “Warrior’s Way”) так и более современно-мыслящую публику.

P.S. альбом также включает три концертных бонуса, ковер-версию MORIA “Revolution” и видеоклип на композицию “Wake Up”.

Запорожцы Hell:on наяривают энергичный thrash/groove metal – вполне в духе поздних Pantera и ранних Machine Head. Музон очень интенсивный, вязкий и плотный, местами даже где-то на грани дэт-металла. Хотелось бы побольше трэша в процентном отношении к грув-металлу, но – что поделать – парни решили этот вопрос по-иному. Несмотря на приличный заряд агрессивной темной энергетики, на “Re:born” есть место отличным мелодиям, они наполняют каждый трек альбома. Ничего особо нового в плане развития музыкальных идей и самого жанра вы не услышите, это  просто крепкий альбом – вполне на уровне второго эшелона европейского металла. Запись весьма неплоха, сбалансирована так, что, с одной стороны, обе гитары отлично слышны, с другой, все остальные инструменты, и голос в том числе, не тонут в миксе. Мое личное пожелание группе состояло бы в следующем – попробовать петь на родном языке, глядишь, у нее был бы шанс прорыва хотя бы на просторах СНГ, да и вряд ли ребята всерьез могут планировать стать успешными за границей славянского мира. А так англоязычные тексты грубо режут ухо, и отнюдь не из-за плохого произношения (тут как раз всё в полном порядке!), но просто из-за славянского склада английской речи (надеюсь, все меня поняли?), т.е. чувствуется, что рифмы лабал не англоязычный чел. В остальном всё зашибись. Кстати, альбом вышел самиздатом (насколько я понял) еще в 2008 году, а в 2011-м переиздан украинским Metal Scrap Records с дополнением в виде трех «живых» бонусов – вполне приличных по звуку – и кавера Moria “Revolution”, плюс видеоклипа.

Ukrainski Hell:on to kapela raczej mloda gdyz powstali w 2005 roku, ale maja juz na koncie kilka wiekszych lub mniejszych wydawnictw. Opisywana plyta to dlugograj z 2008 roku. Jak dla mnie kapela gra nowoczesny thrash z melodyjnymi elementami. Kojarzy mi sie to z kapelami, ktore kiedys nazywano modern thrashowymi jak francuski No Return czy szwedzki Darkane. Wstep do „Wake up” to zdrowa thrashowa lupanka. Jest jeszcze kilka innych ciekawych i mocnych akcentow na tym krazku. Do tego dorzucilbym nieco techniki i melodii Nevermore oraz naszego Quo Vadis. Muza jest ciezka i zawiera sporo melodii. Jest troche techniki, ale bez przesady wiec slychac smaczki gitarowe i od czasu do czasu lamanie rytmu. Brzmienie miesiste i klarowne. Nie bardzo potrafie wyjasnic dlaczego, ale slysze tu tez troche hardcore’a. Moze agresja jest wlasnie bardziej core’owa niz metalowa? Nie wiem. Bonusowo na plycie znajduja sie kawalki koncertowe wiec jest bardziej z pazurem i czuc nawet Slayer albo moze raczej Exodus. Momentami muza ociera sie leciutko o death metal jednak moim zdaniem jest to tylko delikatne otarcie. Ciekawa pozycja dla „lubiejacych” bardziej melodyjne granie.

Hell:On is a band from Ukraine and seems, judging by the sound on the album 'Re:Born', averse of trends and contemporary trends. The five bring a sound that is full of thrash and thick layers of groove up and with that connects with bands such as Damageplan, HellYeah, Pantera, and to a lesser extent, DevilDriver and Machine Head. Aggression and ferocity seem to be dominant but there is also room for melody. Although the band never really comes up with something spectacular and lacks surprise, the album is track after track, easy to endure. Although it is wonderful to hear that the guitars have gotten a prominent role in the mix, the vocals could have been much stronger and fiercer. Maybe it's the fact that singer Alexandr does not go through life without an accent, maybe he could have come across more roaring, perhaps... whatever it is, just a tad more ferocious would have done the overall sound good.
The album already saw the light of day in 2008 but now, after the band has signed at Metal Scrap Records, it is being re-released. Where the original counted eight tracks, this issue holds four bonus tracks and a video clip. The bonus tracks consist of three live tracks and a cover of Moria (‘Revolution’). Just play what you like and disregard current trends. Isn’t it lovely? It may all be little exalting, but for only their attitude Hell:On deserves a listen.

На самом деле, альбом “Re:born”, украинцев HELL:ON, вышел в свет ещё в конце 2008 года. Но, можно сказать, что название диска само себя оправдало и в 2011 году, когда усилиями Metal Scrap Records/Total Metal Records и Metalism Records диск “Re:born”, чудесным образом, “переродился” в новом оформлении, с кучей бонусов и добавленным видеоклипом. На мой взгляд, новое оформление смотрится более сурово и хорошо дополняет содержание самого альбома. В плане содержания, HELL:ON продолжают своё развитие в направлении thrash/groove metal. Получился качёвый, мелодичный материал, с классными гитарными соло и плотной ритм-секцией. Единственное, чего хотелось бы больше, так это более яростной подачи вокала. Но, это уже дело вкуса. По сравнению с предыдущей работой музыкантов, альбомом “Re:born” звучит гораздо уверенней и монолитней, хотя это никак не уменьшает достоинств его предшественника. Несмотря на то, что, изначально, диск был издан несколько лет назад, он абсолютно не потерял своей актуальности. “Re:born” стал доступен всем, кто не смог приобрести его в то время. Крепкая и грамотная работа.

I like that fact that there are bands even today that think that thrash metal is cool to play. Not everybody can be trend sensitive and go with the flow. Somebody has to go against the grain. Hell:On are thrash metal the not so hip way. This is aggressive and hateful thrash metal that speaks to the internal savage in you. This is music to cut wood to. There isn’t anything refined about it. Just brute force. Well, that isn’t the whole truth. There are bits’n’pieces that act as breathers to break the compact wall of noise they present us with. Places to catch your breath before they return to the beating of you to a pulp. Listening to Hell:on is like a really hard work out at the gym. You feel tender in every loin afterwards. I kinda like that feeling after listening to Hell:On. It frees you of all negative energy you might carry with you.
